Mission Drive

October Mission Drive

October has been a month to help our children become more aware of the needs of people in countries in addition to our own. Each year NDES students contribute funds to assist children around the world through the Missionary Childhood Association, Notre Dame Global Missions, and others.

During the 2016-17 school year, we contributed to MCA, assisted with the purchase of new religion books for the children at St. Julie Primary School in Uganda, Africa, and “adopted” three Aloysia Children from Tanzania, Africa. (Aloysia children are orphans or children from other difficult life situations.)

During the 2017-18 school year, our 60th anniversary year, we’d like to continue our efforts for MCA, renew our contributions for the three Aloysia Children ($350 each child for education, housing, food, clothing), and assist St. Julie School with phonics books or other needs they may have.

Most of the 400 children who attend the primary and secondary schools are boarders. The teachers also reside on the property as do young women in formation to become Sisters of Notre Dame. The sisters operate a farm that produces much of the food for all residents. At present, water is collected and stored in large holding tanks during the rainy seasons. There are many challenges that the schools face and any assistance is most appreciated.

To show the progress of our October Mission Drive, there will be a chart in the main lobby. Each child is asked to make an initial donation of $2.00 and will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win one of the three Halloween mascots. An additional raffle ticket will be given for each $.25 above the $2.00. Stickers will be added to the chart for every $2.00 contributed by each homeroom.

Mission Thank You 2017-2018

Through the generosity of our NDES family, we were able to donate $1,050 to Notre Dame Global Missions to continue paying for the tuition and board for three Aloysia children in Tanzania that we had “adopted” last spring. We also sent $525 to the Society for the Propagation of the Faith for the Missionary Childhood Association which serves children around the world.
