Lions Unite! NDCL Students mentor NDES First Lego League and Robotics Team

NDES FIRST Lego League (FLL) Teams met with NDCL’s FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) and displayed a unified passion for harnessing the power of Lego Robotic Technology.

"Our Learning Commons was buzzing with questions, plans and strategies as the NDES and NDCL robotics teams worked together. The students from both schools just loved it," shared Mr. Waler, Principal of NDCL. "Mrs. Kelm (NDCL) and Mrs. Davis (NDES) did a great job of managing all the details to make this collaboration happen.”

NDES formed four FLL teams of 8-10 students from grades 4-8 through the sponsorship of Rockwell Automation and the Pioneer Grant from GE Lighting.

Over the next three months, mentors from the NDCL FTC team, Ashley Champa ‘18 and Jacob Woodhouse ’19, will prepare the NDES FLL Teams for scrimmages and tournaments. The teams will meet each week in NDCL's SND Learning Commons to explore the complexities of robotic technology and develop innovative solutions to real-world problems in hydro-dynamics while discovering the values of coopertition©, a FIRST concept which encourages team cooperation in a competitive setting.

This is the first of many joint ventures between NDCL and NDES and is a synergetic learning opportunity for students from both schools. For NDES, our students are learning and applying 21st technological skills while experiencing a taste of NDCL and exploring future robotics opportunities. The educational benefits also extend to NDCL by providing the students with an invaluable grasp of technological material while mentoring younger students.
