New President Announced

Notre Dame Schools announced the appointment of Dr. Michael J. Bates as the schools' next president, with a term of service to commence July 1, 2017.

Dr. Bates is currently the interim president of Notre Dame Academy, Los Angeles. Previously he was head of school at La Reina High School and Middle School in Thousand Oaks, California.

He holds a bachelor's degree in history from Catholic University of America and a master's degree in pastoral studies from Loyola University of Chicago. He earned his Ed.D. in educational leadership for social justice from Loyola Marymount University.

Bates' appointment comes after a rigorous search process that involved consideration of highly qualified candidates from across the country. As president, his responsibilities will include implementing the schools’ strategic plan, directing the advancement and finance teams, and overseeing marketing and enrollment management.

“I believe in the transformational education that the Sisters of Notre Dame inspire and engage," Bates said. "How thankful I am to be entrusted to lead our Notre Dame Schools in these coming years. I look forward to all that we can accomplish together on behalf of our students and school community.”

Bates and his wife, Nancy, and their two boys, Peter and Brian, will relocate to northeastern Ohio this summer.

The Notre Dame Schools, which include Notre Dame Elementary and Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin School, educate 1278 students in PreK-12 on a 450-campus in Munson Township.
